Dim–Witted Person not having or showing an ability to absorb ideas readily <the show's amateur sleuth always has to explain to the dim-witted police chief who really committed the murder Etc.
The modern English word "stupid" has a broad range of application, from being slow of mind (indicating a lack of intelligence, care or reason), dullness of feeling or sensation (torpidity, senseless, insensitivity), or lacking interest or point (vexing, exasperating). It can either imply a congenital lack of capacity for reasoning, or a temporary state of daze or slow-mindedness.
In Understanding Stupidity, James F. Welles defines stupidity this way: "The term may be used to designate a mentality which is considered to be informed, deliberate and maladaptive." Welles distinguishes stupidity from ignorance; one must know they are acting in their own worst interest. Secondly, it must be a choice, not a forced act or accident. Lastly, it requires the activity to be maladaptive, in that it is in the worst interest of the actor, and specifically done to prevent adaption to new data or existing circumstances."[
Carlo Maria Cipolla, an economic historian, is famous for his essays about human stupidity, such as "The Basic Laws of Human Stupidity".He viewed stupid people as a group, more powerful by far than major organizations such as the Mafia and the industrial complex, which without regulations, leaders or manifesto nonetheless manages to operate to great effect and with incredible coordination.
These are Cipolla's five fundamental laws of stupidity:
Always and inevitably each of us underestimates the number of stupid individuals in circulation.
The probability that a given person is stupid is independent of any other characteristic possessed by that person.
A person is stupid if they cause damage to another person or group of people without experiencing personal gain, or even worse causing damage to themselves in the process.
Non-stupid people always underestimate the harmful potential of stupid people; they constantly forget that at any time anywhere, and in any circumstance, dealing with or associating themselves with stupid individuals invariably constitutes a costly error.
A stupid person is the most dangerous type of person there is.
Study shows that men find "dim-witted" and "drunk" women more attractive + A UT-Austin graduate student researched men's preferences when looking for one-night stands Etc.
At a club, there is always that one guy who is trying to hook up with that girl. The girl isn’t the prettiest, is probably drunk, is ditzy, and is clearly willing to engage in a one-night rendezvous. And despite the plenty of other women who were probably prettier, smarter, and nicer, he chose to settle for the “dumb, drunk” one. So why do men lower their standards? According to a new study, any traits suggesting that a woman’s guard is down are exactly what men look for in a one-night stand.
In a study carried out by University of Texas-Austin graduate student Cari Goetz and her colleagues, they tested the sexual exploitability hypothesis. In short, the hypothesis gives reasoning that men are more likely to engage in a one-night stand than women because it doesn’t result in any detrimental affects to his genetic interests.
The study consisted of a main study and a follow-up in which male participants were asked to express their thoughts on pictures of women based on their “overall attractiveness, how easy it would be to exploit her, and her appeal to them as either a short term or long- term partner.”
Unsurprisingly, the pictures of women who appeared dim-witted, inebriated, or scandalous, were all regarded as an easy “lay.” Yet they were also considered to be more attractive than women who appeared smarter and more conservative. However, these women appeared lack-luster if they were to be considered as a long-term partner in a committed relationship.
An interesting finding in the follow-up study was that men who “play the field” more often and who lack compassion are more likely to pick up on signs of female vulnerability and “exploitability.” Opposite of this was that more caring and sensitive men were less likely to detect or respond to women’s cues of sexual exploitability.
Although the study raises much criticism, it still raises some important questions.. For example, it’s understandable to say intoxicated women are easy “lays,” but it’s very different to say that intoxicated women are also considered more attractive. To prove or disprove that, further research will need to be conducted.
Dimwitted micro stamping law goes into effect in California May 18 2013
Politicians love to pass laws they ascribe to theories, and a 2007 California demand to implement microstamping has finally cleared enough of the technological hurdles to be implemented… but to what end?
Ahotly contested gun-control law that was passed in 2007 is finally ready to be implemented, Attorney General Kamala Harris said Friday: a requirement that every new semiautomatic handgun contain “micro-stamping” technology that would allow police to trace a weapon from cartridges found at a crime scene.
The law, signed by then-Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, made California the first state to require micro-stamping, which engraves the gun’s serial number on each cartridge. But the legislation specified that it would take effect only when the technology was available and all private patents had expired.
…Implementation of micro-stamping “moves California to the forefront of the nation in combatting gun crime,” said the law’s author, former Assemblyman Mike Feuer, D-Los Angeles, who attended the news conference and is running for city attorney.
C.D. Michel, the NRA’s West Coast regional attorney, had a much grimmer prediction.
“This is not going to help solve crimes,” he said. “It’s easily defeated, easily wears out and can be used to lead police down false alleys” if the serial numbers are altered.
Worse yet, Michel said, manufacturers will be unwilling to add this expensive feature to guns sold in a single state, and will instead keep manufacturing weapons for the other states, where demand already far exceeds supply. The effect, he said, would be a ban on new semiautomatic handguns in California, which the NRA will challenge in court.
Microstamping “works” by turning the firing pin into a stamp. When the hammer comes down and the firing pin moves forward, it imprints a serial number on the primer of the cartridge.
This is great… in theory.
In reality, firing pins are easily replaceable, inexpensive parts that can readily be swapped out by any end user in less than ten minutes by any career criminal. This microstamping also wears out quickly, or can be defeated with a file or a grinder in about 30 seconds.
In short, the technology is a gimmick. So why pass it?
Democrats will claim that “any little bit helps,” and we must concede that microstamping may work on some occasions, but they didn’t push microstamping to solve crimes.
California Democrats passed microstamping for the same reason they’ve passed every gun law: to increase the cost of firearms, hoping to force the economically disadvantaged out of the market. At it’s core, in every culture, the intent of gun control is to target minorities for disarmament in order to better control them.
To it’s heart, gun control is racist, designed to disarm minorities.
This law is is just one of many confirming that fact.
Even if their intention was to make things “safer”, this will never work as intended. What happens when someone reloads a “micro stamped” casing? What happens if a per p deliberately uses a previously “stamped” casing (once-fired range brass) and then uses it in a crime with a gun not micro stamped equipped? This dumb law actually will make crime easier if not more attractive once the bad guys figure this out – which won’t take long.
That’s not how reloading (or ammo) works. To successfully re-use a piece of spent brass, you have to de-cap the brass by using a sizing die to knock the old primer out in order to replace it with a new primer. It’d be easier to pick up brass at the range that was micro stamped and leave it at a crime scene having picked up the brass used in the crime to pin it on someone else.
The aim of this and other laws is not to disarm minorities, but to disarm everyone. Progressive politicians in this state would pass legislation banning possession of firearms and require them to be turned in for destruction, if they could.
But they can’t, so they come up with creative ways to make firearm ownership expensive and aggravating in the hopes that people simply don’t bother with it. Take a look at this page to see some of proposed bills:
A form of “micro stamping” has existed as long as cartridge arms have been around Every case left at a shooting scene has the thumbprint of whoever loaded the magazine. This information is commonly used to solve shootings. Also, while not yet in common use, it has been found that the natural acids in fingerprints micro-etch the print onto the case and technology has recently been developed that can read it even if the case is wiped down with oil or solvent.
Plea Deal Helps Dim-Witted Father Stay Out Of Prison
52, from Waukegan, Illinois, has accepted a plea deal, and acknowledged that he took a needle and thread to his son’s buttocks. This will help him stay out of prison. Instead he will serve 24 months of probation and 250 hours of public service for the incident, that occurred in 2008.
Swopes’ teenage son, who was 14 at the time of the incident, was suffering from Crohn’s disease. According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, Crohn’s disease is an autoimmune disorder in which the body’s immune system destroys healthy tissue. Instead of taking his son to the hospital and ensuring that he was given appropriate medical care, Swopes tried to sew it himself, owing to which, the wound got infected which saw him in hospital for almost a month.
Swopes was charged with aggravated battery and had he not accepted a plea deal, could have ended up spending between two and five years in Prison.
CNN’s ‘Dangerous, Dim-Witted, Deluded Menace to American Safety.
“Wayne LaPierre, President of the NRA, you’re a vile and inhumane piece of s@&t,” reads the manifesto, “You never even showed 30 seconds of empathy for the children, teachers, and families of Sandy Hook.” The writer also wanted CNN’s little-watched Piers Morgan to know “the problem that many American gun owners have with you and your continuous discussion of gun control is that you are not an American citizen and have an accent … I want you to know that I agree with you 100% on enacting stricter firearm laws.”
The manifesto’s author is Christopher Jordan Dorner, the subject of a massive Southern California manhunt following a killing spree, in which Dorner allegedly targeted Los Angeles police officers and their families. The daughter of a retired LAPD captain, her fiancé and a Riverside County police officer are dead in what authorities claim are acts of revenge over Dorner’s dismissal from the Los Angeles police Department. Local law enforcement is providing police protection for 40 people mentioned in Dorner’s pro-Piers Morgan, anti-gun manifesto.
Recently, a subject of Dorner’s scorn, National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre, said in testimony before Congress, “Law-abiding gun owners will not accept blame for the acts of violent or deranged criminals, nor do we believe that government should dictate what we can lawfully own and use to protect our families.”
LaPierre’s full-throated defense of Second Amendment rights in the midst of the hysterical atmosphere following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting enraged CNN’s little-watched presenter Piers Morgan, who Tweeted that the NRA chief was a “dangerous, dim-witted, deluded menace to American safety.”
The laws known in America as the United States Constitution say the representatives of the people are powerless to strip God-given, “unalienable” rights to free speech and gun ownership from the individual.
As I recall, back in the sceptered isle Piers Morgan calls England, King John signed a document (Magna Carta) in which he pledged, “No freeman shall be taken, imprisoned … outlawed, banished, or in any way destroyed, nor will We proceed against or prosecute him, except by the lawful judgment of his peers and by the law of the land.”
In other words, even the king is subject to the law; a legal doctrine Samuel Rutherford called “Lex, Rex” – Latin for, “The law is king.” Many centuries passed before England’s monarchs took the Magna Carta seriously.
Here in America, our Founders took Rutherford’s doctrine so seriously, they established a government ruled by law, which all officials, great and small, swear to defend and protect against all enemies – “foreign and domestic.”
That sworn officials of America’s government ignore their oaths telegraphs they are above the law. In fact, it says they are a law unto themselves. George Washington may have said, “No kings here,” but modern Progressives would dearly love to see America devolve into a bureaucratic monarchy that controls every action, punishes every perceived offense to its royal power, rewarding the favored few … all in the name of “American safety.”
So, here are a few loaded questions for questioner Piers Morgan: Do you feel your very public, anti-gun tirades, in a modest way, inspired a like-minded, anti-Second Amendment fanatic’s murderous rampage? If so, do you feel restrictions on First Amendment free speech are in order if it prevents such rampages from occurring in the future? If you believe your right to free speech is a higher principle that trumps the murderous actions of madmen, does that make you a “dangerous, dim-witted, deluded menace to American safety”?
In 1776 immigration was unchecked in the American colonies. The people living here decided to form their own government and bypass the King’s tax man. Those folks wrote some rules that defined our form of Government and who was eligible to hold office. The President had to be a natural born citizen – meaning that he had to be born on the soil of America. The definition of ‘American Soil’ has occasionally been raised in our glorious political history. If anyone should have been checked for legal birth rights it should probably have been our first seven Presidents – they were of the immigrant class. That was in the day when most immigrants were white and from Europe – so no one made a big deal out of the ‘birth clause.’ Is there such a thing as group schizophrenia?
I have two nephews who were born into an American military family while they were stationed in Belgium. My brother joked that the boys could never be President because they were not born on American soil. John McCain was born in Panama to a military family stationed away from home. His birth certificate reports Panama as his place of birth. But because he was in a military family, assigned by the government to Panama, and born on a military base – the question of his nationality is not questioned. Actually, his nationality is not questioned because he is a white male with the tag of ‘Republican.’ There is no benefit to simpletons in challenging his birth right. But not all challengers are simpletons. Check this out – an Army Lt. Colonel is challenging the right of Obama to be Commander in Chief:
This guy has flipped out, well, that is my opinion. I know people like this. They are people who will grab a cause and hang on for dear life. They will use their cause to justify anger, resentment, hate, and fighting to the death. I know these people because I have been one. Anyone who has followed my writings will see the shadow of causes infiltrating my words. The difference between me and that Lt. Colonel is that I have at last become aware of how damaging causes have been in my life – and how futile it is to fight for something that is not important.
There is a strain of racism masquerading as concern for our nation. President Obama’s father was Kenyan. He was not American, did not claim to be, and did not want to be. Obama’s mother was a lily white woman from Kansas. This sort of union is offensive to many Americans. Some Americans do not believe that Jews and Catholics should be allowed to breed – but add the element of race mixing and look out below, the bombs will fall. President Obama was born in Hawaii to an American mother. We are told this by the Secretary of State in Hawaii – who has produced copies of the original birth certificate.
The big toot about immigration in 2010 America is racism masquerading as patriotism. Because a large majority of modern immigrants are darker in complexion and speak a different language than the white descendants of European immigrants – there is a scream of intolerance. These immigrants are also willing to take jobs that most proud white people would shun. The racist sees that fact as proof that they are lesser creatures and should not be allowed in our country.
The discrimination against Hispanic immigration is no different than the discrimination against the Chinese immigration of the 18th and 19th Centuries. It seems there is a strain of anger running around in a large segment of America – what, perhaps ten percent of Americans live lives of ‘quiet desperation’ – striking out, venting their frustration on abstract external fights that are mostly irrelevant to their daily lives.
These people seem to grab on to irrational ideas. Ideas like ‘death panels’ in health care reform. Ideas like immigrants are demeaning our great country. Ideas like our government is going to take our guns away from us. Ideas like discrimination against any faith system not of their own choice.
The Colonel in the video reveals something important. Right wing fanaticism is not about ignorance, is not about education, is not about color or ethnicity or creed or gender. For that matter, left wing fanaticism falls in the same category. What is it that gets under the saddle of otherwise reasonable educated people that makes them hunger for battle? The quest for a fight – to be martyred for a cause – seems to grip some people. Is there some underlying need for people to feel that their life mattered? What is this need to be right that drives otherwise reasonable people to spit the venom of hatred?
Fanaticism is not confined to the domain of politics and race. We are talking about fanaticism that becomes viral, that is so powerful that it would cause a man like the Colonel in the video to risk his career. The fanaticism that justifies threats against individual congressmen, that drives people to throw bricks through glass, to shoot holes in windows, to protest against homosexuality at dead soldiers funerals.
What is it that justifies denying an Hispanic man from working hard to send money to his family? What is it that causes someone to jeopardize their career to challenge the birth of the President? Why do people put their own lives in jeopardy, put the well being of their family in jeopardy, put our political system in jeopardy – by martyring themselves for some cause that is at best ill-defined?
What is it that drives a better-than-thou attitude?
